Čech returns, goals for Plašil, Polák and Jarolím

Keeper Petr Čech returned to the Chelsea side for their first match of the new league season.
Čech made a successful comeback to the side as Chelsea thrashed West Bromwich Albion 6:0. He had been recovering from a calf injury and had been expected to miss the first match of the season.

Arsenal started the new season with a 1:1 draw against Liverpool with Tomáš Rosický playing the last half-hour of the game.

Jaroslav Plašil netted his first goal of the season for Bordeaux against Toulouse but it was not enough, Bordeaux losing 2:1.

Striker Jan Polák helped Anderlect in their 4:0 win over Beerschot, scoring in 3rd minute of the match.

In the German Cup Hamburg beat 5th league Tolgelower 5:1, with Ruud Van Nistelrooij scoring a hattrick, with Czech international David Jarolím also finding the back of the net.
